Many women join the AWA to directly support the Royal Children's
Hospital. Perhaps they, or people they know, have had children who
spent time in the care of the RCH. Because the AWA falls under the
banner of the Auxiliaries, there are defined specific opportunities in
which we are directly allowed to assist.
Opportunities are generally around helping in the hospital Auxiliaries
Gift Shop, and minding gift stalls out in front of it. This has
evolved out of the traditional role of the auxiliaries where ladies baked
and made clothes and gifts for sale, which they sold to hospital visitors
just inside the entrance.
Auxiliaries Gift Shop
Each financial year, the shop's profits are distributed (according to
percentage of hours worked) among the volunteering auxiliaries.
Shop Hours: 9am - 4:30pm week days.
Closed weekends and holidays.
These are ongoing roles. Please inquire with the "Auxiliaries
Liaison - Retail" to determine whether there is a vacancy on the roster.
There is also an option of being on the Emergency list to cover an
absence, while you are waiting for a permanent shift to become available.
Stalls on the Pods
The stalls are also allocated on an ongoing basis to the auxiliaries who
have things to sell daily.
Note: Please know that to volunteer at the hospital you must have a
current Working with Children accreditation, Police check and RCH ID
badge with hospital logo.
