Hello everyone

Fall is certainly upon us now here in Melbourne! Hope everyone is staying warm through this recent cold front!

It's been a great past couple of weeks for me, personally - last week I celebrated both my birthday and becoming an Australian citizen! Congratulations to AWA member, Lanette Porritt, who also became a citizen at the same ceremony in Stonnington last week! It was great to have an American friend amongst the new Aussies! Personally, I thought the ceremony was lovely - incorporating some inspirational speeches from local members of state and federal parliament as well as many iconic Australian songs (We are Australian, I Still Call Australia Home, Waltzing Matilda and the National Anthem). The occasion was fun and festive and truly something I will always remember as an important part of my dual identity as an American and an Australian.

The day after the citizenship ceremony my husband and I (along with our little pup, Ollie) headed to beautiful Noosa for the weekend to celebrate my birthday and a friend's wedding. Each time I visit Queensland I am reminded of just how lucky we are to live in a country which is diverse and beautiful, with such stunning scenery!!!

The AWA has also been busy over the past couple of weeks. It was great to see so many members and meet so many new and potential members at the May Monthly Night Meeting at my house. Also, it was wonderful to see so many members volunteering to be on the Halloween Committee, which had its first meeting after the Night Meeting. Thank you to all the ladies who are volunteering to assist with this very important event - including Brooke Purcell (last year's Halloween chair and this year's co-chair (also AWA Secretary)), who had her baby (little, Riker) only 5 days before the Night/Halloween meeting and made it there (with baby) nonetheless!!

Also, a very big thank you to Eve Duddy, who has volunteered to be the Silent Auction chairperson for our upcoming fundraising events - the Block Arcade Fashion Show Event and the Night With the Harvard Kroks. Thanks Eve!!!

All of our volunteers really make this organisation what it is and allow us to fulfill our fundraising endeavors efficiently and effectively. You are all greatly appreciated!!!

Speaking of the Block Arcade Event - this is being held on 19 June. Tickets are on sale now via our website. Note that all funds raised from ticket sales (as well as from the silent auction and raffle on the night) go to benefit the Children's Bioethics Centre at the Royal Children's Hospital!!! Please buy your tickets now!!!

Hope to see you all at an AWA event soon!

Many kind regards

Tiffany

Tiffany great letter and thank you for your hard work. We on the Mornington Penninsula have had a very positive response so far for our 4th of July lunch at Crackerjack in Seaford. If you can make it you would be most welcome as any other Americans who would like a 2 course lunch on the water for $40.00. I know we all have our regional events and you will too, however if you as President would like to come you are welcome. Cheryl
