Hope you are all easing into autumn and enjoying the great weather
Melbourne has been offering!
We've had a busy past couple of weeks at the AWA!!
First, we held a strategy session for all Activity Group Leaders. This was
organised and facilitated by our new Activity Group Coordinator, Maylynn
Bloom, and our VP of Membership, Marla Coffin. It was great to have all of
the Activity Group Leaders in one room allowing for the exchange of great
ideas and planning for the future. Did you know that the AWA currently has
over 10 Activity Groups? There really is something for everyone - from book
club to lunch in the City to Mom & Tots to PALS (Permanent Auxiliary
Ladies Social), including a new group - 'Dinner
Group'. Each of these groups offers a fun and unique way to get
involved in our diverse organisation. I strongly encourage each of you to
take a look at the AWA website and plan to get involved in a new Activity
Group (or two)!!(And if there is a group you want to start,
let Maylynn know!)
Also, another great way to get involved in AWA is to help with our
fundraising efforts. As you may know, on 13 July 2013, we will be
co-hosting with the Children's Bioethics Centre, "A Night With the Harvard
Krokodiloes" at The Australian Club.
We are currently seeking a Silent Auction Committee Chairperson to head up
the Silent Auction Committee for this event. This should be a fun event and
provide a great fundraising opportunity for our organisation. The Silent
Auction Committee will be an integral part of meeting our fundraising
goals. Please let me know if you
might be interested in Chairing the Silent Auction Committee!!!
Additionally, we are already starting to plan for our major fundraising
event this year - the AWA Halloween Extravaganza.
The Halloween Committee will have its first
planning meeting on Wednesday 1 May immediately following the
Night Meeting, which is being held at my
apartment. All members are welcome to attend this planning meeting.
Please RSVP to Masoomeh if you would
like to attend.
We also have many other great events coming up over the next couple of
weeks! This Tuesday at 12:30pm the Women in the
City Lunch Group will be taking a tour of the Australian Tapestry
Workshop (ATW) and having lunch thereafter. An AWA member, Kirstin Mattson,
works at the ATW and will be leading the tour. This should prove to be an
interesting and unique opportunity. All Members are welcome - please
RSVP to Toni Hynes. Further,
Moms & Tots will be meeting at 10:00am on
Wednesday, 24 April at Birrarung Marr Playground.
Hope to see you all at an AWA event soon!
