Hello Everyone!

What a great time of year to be an American! I really enjoyed seeing many of you at our Halloween Extravaganza last weekend - we had a great turn out with nearly 600 people attending. I particularly liked the live music this year, along with the food trucks and, of course, the costume contest! In my opinion, the event gets better and better every year! Most of this year's success was due to the wonderful work of Ginette Gremillet, our Halloween Chairperson, who did a really outstanding job! Thank you so very much Ginette for all of your hard work! Also thank you to Cara Whelan, the AWA's Social Director, who contributed a great deal to the event!!! Finally, the day couldn't happen without all of our wonderful volunteers - so thank you very much to all of those who came out on the day to make it a huge success! Well done everyone!

Now...on to the next big AWA event...Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is certainly my favourite holiday. I just love the family focus and the idea that we set aside a day from our hectic and crazy lives to be thankful. What a beautiful concept! This year's AWA Thanksgiving event will be held in partnership with the American Australian Association on Friday 22 November 2013 at Sandy By The Bay. Please see the AWA website for more information and to purchase tickets.

It's always such a busy and wonderful time of the year in the lead up to Christmas! On a personal note - this year is particularly busy for me as I am in the midst of changing jobs (changing careers, actually). As many of you know, I am a corporate and commercial lawyer. However, Monday 4 November is my last day working as a lawyer as I will be going into the Arts not for profit sector, joining the Melbourne Theatre Company as the Development Director. I am very excited about the move! I really want to thank everyone, including my AWA friends, who have counselled and supported me though this change in career. That's really what our organisation is about, making friends and building a support network far away from home. I am truly grateful for the support that so many of you provide to me! Thank you.

We have a few things on the calendar coming up in the next couple of weeks - Masoomeh Wake, our VP of Fundraising, will be hosting the November Night Meeting at her home on 6 November. Please RSVP through the website for this event . Also, on 14 November the Gourmet Lunch Group and the Dinner Group will be meeting. Finally, I just wanted to mention that our Christmas Cocktail will be held again this year at the Consul General's house on Thursday 12 December - please save the date for this - more information will be available on the AWA website soon!

Regards and hope to see you all at an AWA event soon!
