President's Blog - 1 December 2014

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays!

First, a HUGE thank you to Sara Donaldson, who chaired our Thanksgiving event this past weekend!  The event was a great success featuring an authentic Turkey Dinner, a silent auction and raffle and even a visit from Santa!

It's hard to believe that the holiday season is upon us and that 2014 is quickly coming to an end!

As this year ends, so does my time as AWA President.  It has been a fantastic 2 ½ years for me as AWA President and 1 ½ years as VP Fundraising prior. Over the years I have gotten to see firsthand, all of the hard work and dedication that goes into making the AWA possible.  This organisation would not exist without the efforts that AWA Members put forth year after year.  From chairing fundraising events such as our Halloween or Golf Day, to planning Activity Group meetings and organising social events such as our Easter Extravaganza or Thanksgiving Dinner - you all make the AWA tick!   And, it has been my absolute pleasure and honour to work with so many of you over the years!

As some of you may know, not only am I preparing to move off the AWA Board, I am also preparing to move away from Australia, back to the US.  My husband and I will relocate to San Francisco in January where my husband has accepted a new job.   Interestingly, I will stay in my current position in Melbourne during 2015, working remotely and travelling back to Melbourne for 1 week a month.   I have mixed feelings about leaving my home for the past 7 years.  Australia and Melbourne in particular, is a fantastic place to live and I have thoroughly enjoyed it!  Of course, I am looking forward to White Christmases, Fourth of Julys, Thanksgivings and being closer to my friends and family back home but I will miss my friends here in Melbourne - so many of which were made through the AWA.

I know the AWA will continue to thrive under the leadership of the new President, Masoomeh Wake (who was previously VP Fundraising) along with the newly elected Board!  And I look forward to watching what great things the AWA will do over the coming years!

I wish each of you the best for the future and I thank you for helping to make my time in Melbourne exceptional!

Kind regards

Tiffany x
