I just can't believe it is already October - where has the year gone?
I have to admit that after nearly 5 years here in Australia, I still have a
hard time adjusting to the seasons. When I think of October, I immediately
think of crisp mornings, autumn colours and football season - and (although
I am very happy that our weather here in Melbourne is becoming a bit warmer
and sunnier) I get a bit homesick around the beginning of October as I
remember the beauty of a northern hemisphere autumn.
October also (of course) means Halloween - and the AWA is gearing up for
the biggest and best Halloween event yet! As you may know, the Halloween
Extravaganza will be held on 28 October 2012 from 2pm - 5pm at Sportscover
Arena (Elsternwick Cricket Ground). This year's event will involve games,
face-painting, jumping castles, children's entertainment, a costume contest
and trick-or-treating. It will be a fun filled day - not just for kids and
parents, but for everyone who attends!! Be sure to buy your tickets prior
to 14 October to get the early bird pricing discount!
Also, be sure to register by 5pm TODAY for the New Member
Happy Hour and General Meeting, which will be held this Wednesday, 3
October at Lot 7 (95 Flinders Lane, Melbourne). We will be having a New
Members' Happy Hour from 6pm - 7pm followed by a General Meeting. I am
pleased to note that Catherine Lees from the Children's Bioethics Centre
will be attending to give a short presentation about the CBC and all of the
great work they are conducting!
Hope to see you all there!
