Since the beginning of the AWA fifty years ago, the Auxiliary has
contributed over $250,000 to the Hospital. By 1989, one-third of all AWA
members are Permanent Residents - this is a real reflection of the
influence and respect the AWA has built in the wider Melbourne community.
The 1980s saw an expansion of the AWA's social activities - bazaars,
fetes, luncheons, mom and tots, fashion events. The annual Gala Ball. All
these events attracted fantastic public relations coverage for the AWA and
raised critical funds.
The list of equipment purchased by the AWA is now impressive and includes
a cardio-respiratory monitor for the neo-natal unit, a mobile X-ray
machine, and a Hydraulic Burn Bath valued at $100,000.
