 Call for RCH Gift Shop Volunteers
Volunteers for the Royal Children’s Hospital Gift Shop are urgently needed! Upcoming dates include 26 March, 23 April, 28 May and 25 June. Four AWA volunteers staff the gift shop on the fourth Thursday of each month. Volunteers may choose to work the morning shift from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. or the afternoon shift from 1-4 p.m. Volunteers assist the shop manager at the checkout counter and help customers select the perfect stuffed critter or special toy. Please contact Caron to schedule your 2009 volunteer hours today. No previous experience required!
State Department Registration Reminder
Given the recent bushfires and the experiences of AWA members, we would like to remind US citizens to register with the U.S. Department of State as an Australian resident and if you should be involved in a disaster while here in Australia to immediately contact the local Red Cross. They will be able to respond to family member inquiries regarding your whereabouts if you are not able to contact them directly. AWA Easter Party
Our AWA Easter party is back! It will be a family fun day on Saturday April 4, 2009 at Hays Paddock, Kew. There will be lots of fun Easter activities for kids to enjoy! The cost is $8 per child if you book now, the price rises to $15 per child on March 20. Contact Tracy for more information. Gala Committee Meeting
It's been a few weeks since our last committee meeting and things are moving along. More and more little tasks are beginning to become apparent, so it's great to have some hands to help out along the way. Let's meet up at TGIFriday's at the Jam Factory, Thurs night March 5th at 7:30pm, feel free to order dinner. Come with your thinking caps on because we have a bit of brainstorming to do as well. Please RSVP to Tenille for adequate space to be reserved.
 Independence Day Celebration Weekend
Our annual Independence Day Celebration will be held at the fun & funky Bobby McGee's at Rydges Melbourne. It's going to be a casual affair this year, perfect for having a relaxed weekend in the city. Starting on March 2 (and only lasting for 5 days), Rydges is offering rooms at just $95 a night! To take advantage of this offer, you need to book via their website. So mark your diary for June 20th Independence Day Celebration at Bobby McGee's and book your room as well. See you there! All Things Gourmet
Try out a new recipe and eat like a gourmet! All Things Gourmet will meet for lunch on March 5th from 12 to 2 pm. Please contact Miyuki for a recipe and location to be sent to you via email. Lunch is generally about 10 gourmet dishes and is always delicious!
Moms & Tots
Preschoolers and their moms are invited for a playgroup at Teranne's home on Friday March 6th from 10 am until noon. Bring a favorite toy!
Movie Night
Join our movie buffs for a hot flick on Monday, March 16 2009 at the Kino Cinema, 45 Collins St., Melbourne. Please RSVP to Kalene who will send a reminder out two weeks prior and a confirmation on Thursday 3/12.
 AWA/Grace Charity Golf Tournament
Here's golf for a very good cause! We still have spaces available for our tournament to raise money for the RCH Cystic Fibrosis Research Team on Tuesday, 17 March at Kingston Heath Golf Club, Cheltenham. Tell your partner, friends, colleagues about this opportunity to golf at the #2 ranked course in Australia. Register as a team of 4 or as an individual ($235 per person) in an Ambrose competition. Registration and lunch begin at 11:00 am with a 12:30 pm Shotgun Start. Beginning at 6 pm, we will have cocktails and a Silent Auction followed by dinner, Tournament Presentation, and Live Auction. AWA Volunteers Needed
Are you able to help for a half-day or full-day on Tuesday, 17 March for the AWA/Grace Charity Golf Tournament? As this is one of largest fundraisers for the CF Research Team this year, we need your help to pack goodie bags, greet our golfers and help with set-up for the golf fundraiser from 10am to 1pm. If the morning is not convenient, we require a few volunteers to assist with the live auction in the evening. If you are interested contact Julie McClernon on 9804 3313 or jmcclernon@connexus.net.au.
