2000 - The Noughties
This decade saw the AWA grow in membership and hone its fundraising skills.
Many members worked timelessly to make it a wonderful Auxiliary to be a part of
and two-thirds of our members are permanent residents.
The AWA maintains its focus on promoting friendship and community among our members. In 2006 our 175 members came from 27 American states and included 13 Australians and a member from Japan, Sweden, New Zealand and American Samoa.
The terrible tragedy of September 11 affected many of us in the Auxiliary and the outpouring of sympathy from Melbournians to our American community will always be remembered.
Between 2002 and 2005 the Australia New Zealand Children's Heart Research Centre benefited more than $500,000 from the AWA.
2007 saw the introduction of our Halloween Trunk or Treat event, which has grown leaps and bounds since it's first year.
In 2009, the AWA introduced an Easter Eggstravaganza, which families across the AWA delighted in.
In total, as the AWA approaches it's 80th year, our auxiliary has raised over $4 million for the RCH. The noughties saw the AWA contribute over $1.44 million of that.
