1990's - A Return to Style
Timeless volunteering, spectacular events and appreciation of strong life-long
friendships made the 1990s our most successful fundraising decade ever. Ball
themes saw a return to classic elegance and style with 1995's "A Sparkling
Event" Raising an astonishing $105,368 and 1996's "A Jewelled Evening",
$115,000. The 1992 Ball helps to raise $100,000 to refurbish the Burn Unit.
In 1995 the Panel of Advisors is established with prominent business leaders agreeing to help AWA as advisors and with fundraising. The AWA Golf Tournament commenced in 1994 providing another successful fundraiser that continues annually. At the 1996 Ball, Donna Elisabeth Murdoch, a long time friend of the AWA, is our special guest and donates an American flag that was flown over the Capital Building in honour of our 65th birthday. President Clinton sends a special commendation acknowledging our 65 years of fundraising for the RCH. We theme our 1998 BAll "When You Wish Upon A Star" to honour the opening of the RCH's Starlight Room. From 2003, children in the Starlight Room draw wonderful and uplifting covers for the AWAre Magazine.
