Letter from the President - Australia Day
Dear Governor-General:
On behalf of the people of the United States, I offer my warm
congratulations to you and the Australian people on Australia Day this
January 26.
As I noted when I visited Australia in November, the U.S.-Australia
alliance has served as an anchor of stability, security, and prosperity
in the world for six decades. Our peoples and united by history, and
our uniformed personnel have served side by side in every major
conflict since World War 1.
The United States and Australia are also joined by deep economic,
cultural and people-to-people ties. Our two nations share an abiding
commitment to human rights and democratic values, and a readiness to
support those values around the world. As you celebrate your national
day, know that the United States stands with
you in friendship now and in the future.
I wish all Australians a safe and happy holiday celebration and
continued peace and prosperity in the coming year.
Sincerely,
Barack Obama
